Women's Retreat
Linden Valley Retreat Center
The youth of FBC Memphis returned home after a week long mission trip to Jackson, MI. It was the highlight of the youth summer calendar as Mission-Serve made repairs on 17 houses in the community. Most of the repair work consisted of roofing jobs but some crews were able to build new handicap ramps along with painting the exterior of certain homes.
The youth and their adult supervisors camped out at Jackson Christian High School and experienced what it was like to sleep with 20-30 other youth on air mattresses in classrooms. With hundreds of youth and only a few bathrooms, the youth groups learned a lot about roughing it for the week. But all would agree that it was worth every minute of it.
Our daily schedule began with an early 5:30am wake up time, 6:00pm breakfast, and then we were off to the project sites. Each night we all participated in energetic worship services that typically concluded with a call for decision and resolve. In addition to the worship the youth had the option of participating in a variety show and an experience called The Concert of Prayer.
For our free afternoon, we traveled to Ann Arbor and fell in love with this city. We were able to walk through the diag at the University of Michigan, walk and shop on Main Street, and eat at what is called the best deli in the United States (Zingerman's Deli). I won't disagree...it was good!
So we are all back and safe. Thank you for your prayers and for your donations both in supplies, money, and those precious Home Depot cards.
We will be sharing pictures and testimonies about the trip on Wednesday night August 11th.
