Ash Wednesday Service
Our annual forty-day pilgrimage through Lent begins with a service which reminds us of penitence and mortality. It will be held in Caudill Chapel at 6 p.m. on February 22. You will have the opportunity to remain for the traditional imposition of ashes, a truly meaningful way to begin your Lenten journey.
Our community enjoys a wonderful opportunity each year to worship together and hear some of the country’s finest preachers during Lent at Calvary Episcopal Church, weekdays at noon, February 23-March 30. Rev. Ray Hatton serves on the planning committee for this series.
This year’s series will see the return of favorites such as Rabbi Micah Greenstein and Phyllis Tickle, while featuring new speakers such as Dr. A. J. Levine, New Testament Professor at Vanderbilt Divinity School; Fr. Nicholas Vieron, Pastor Emeritus of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church; and Friends of the Groom Theater Company, based in Terrace Park, OH. A full schedule will be posted on the church bulletin board, and weekly speakers will be listed in our order of worship.
One of the added attractions of the series is the delicious lunch menu served daily in Calvary’s Waffle Shop, a well-deserved Memphis institution.
God's Work, My Pledge
March 4 will be Pledge Sunday this year. In the next few weeks, you will be hearing testimonies, reading information, and receiving your invitation to support the work of our church by pledging to the 2012 Church Budget. This emphasis will culminate on March 4 as we bring our pledges to the altar, and as we celebrate at a church-wide brunch after Morning Worship. Mark your calendar and be praying for God to lead each of us in this vital commitment.
