History
The First Baptist Church of Memphis
1839-2007
The church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is his new creation by Spirit and the Word:
From heav'n he came and sought her to be his holy bride,
With his own blood her bought her, and for her life he died.
The First Baptist Church of Memphis has stood at the corner of Poplar and Parkway for 56 years as both a landmark of, and a lighthouse for, the Mid-South. Its history stretches across nearly 168 years, and its influence stretches around the world. It is a diverse congregation composed of both longtime members and recent transplants to the city. Its hallmark of service is missions, and its history is a testament to the Great Commission.
