 The Fine Print

      Rev. Ray D. Hatton became Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee in 1986, after serving several churches in Texas, his home state. A native of Beaumont, he is a graduate of Lamar University there. He received the Master of Arts degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin, and the Master of Church Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

      Rev. Hatton is an accomplished pianist and organist, and served as accompanist for the Singing Men of Texas for fifteen years. He is also a composer, with choral and keyboard compositions published by several sacred music publishers.

      Active in Baptist life, he has served as president of the Tennessee Baptist Church Music Conference and president of the Southwestern Seminary Music Alumni Association. He was Host when the Southern Baptist Church Music Conference met in Memphis in 2002, and has served as Vice President of that organization. In addition to his full-time church music ministry, he is Director of Music at Baptist College of Health Sciences, and composed their Alma Mater.

      Ray is also involved in ecumenical ministry within the community. He has served on the Lenten Preaching Series Committee at Calvary Episcopal. He was a founding director of Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association’s Barrier Breaker Chorus.

            Rev. Hatton is married to Trudy Grant Hatton, who works as administrative assistant for the Baptist College of Health Sciences. They have two grown children; Holly and Grant, and a grandson, Dylan.
