Youth Summer Meetups

Youth Summer Meetups

This summer the youth will have the opportunity to be a part of a Meet Up Group and we would love for you to join us! Modeled after the app, “Meet Up,” the youth will have activities throughout the summer for 3 different interest groups: outdoor adventures, art, and a book club. Choose a group (or two or three!) that interests you and join us as we connect our faith with our hobbies.

Praying with Creation: Join us for a hike (moderate in difficulty) at Shelby Farms on Saturday, June 23 from 9-11 am (gotta get out there before it gets too hot!). Those who want to carpool can meet me at the church at 8:30. Everyone else can meet us at the parking lot on the corner of Humphreys Blvd. and Walnut Grove Rd. Bring a water bottle.

Join us as we walk a prayer labyrinth at Second Baptist Church on Saturday, July 21 from 9-10 am. Those who want to carpool can meet me at the church at 8:30. Everyone else can meet in the back parking lot at Second Baptist Church at 9 am.

Praying with Color: Join us on June 17, July 1 and July 15 from 2-4 pm in the Youth Area as we create a work of art based on a passage of scripture. You can use whatever medium you choose, but please sign up for this Meet Up with Brittany so she can coordinate the purchase of art supplies. The deadline to register is June 10. We will meet you at FLC doors at 2.

Praying with Story: Do you ever wonder what your purpose is; how you can make a difference in the world? Join us as we discuss a book by Parker Palmer titled Let Your Life Speak. This short book explores the idea of vocation and how our experiences and giftedness can guide us to find the true calling of our lives. We will discuss the book in two parts on July 23 and July 30 from 7-9 pm at Brittany’s house. Please let Brittany know if you want to participate by June 17 so she can order your book and get it to you in time to start reading.

Please do not think these Meet Ups are not for you. They will give you the opportunity to engage with our youth and for you to form a relationship with these precious, insightful teens. It will also give you a chance to consider how you might turn your hobbies into an act of prayer and reflection. You do not have to attend all of the Meet Up dates listed in each category in order to be a part of the group. Our hope is that these can be a fun, meaningful part of your summer. So put what interests you on your calendar and join us when you can!
